The success of the SEAMEO network can in part be attributed to its long history of collaboration. By sharing expertise and resources the various SEAMEO centres have been contributing towards the development of Southeast Asia for the past 50 years. While SEAQIM has only been part of this journey since 2009, it has already contributed to a vast range of project, from capacity building community groups to assisting with the development of educational standards for the region.

Case Study: SEAMEO Centres Policy Research Network

A project being run across all of the SEAMEO centres is the Policy Research Network. This network aims to enhance the relevance and responsiveness of SEAMEO centres’ policy research in addressing human resource development issues throughout Southeast Asia. The scope of the network includes evaluating new or existing policies, describing examples of best practice, measuring social change or even potentially longitudinal studies of educational issues in the region.

Case Study: SEAMEO Star Village (SEAMEO Regional Centres in Indonesia)

The Star Village program is a collaboration between the six SEAMEO centres across Indonesia. It is part of the SEAMEO Community Involvement Program, and aims to sustainably develop and empower a target community using the expertise of the various SEAMEO centres.

The target location is the Cihideung Ilir village near Mt. Salak, Bogor. The SEAMEO Centres will assist the community by conducting programs in agriculture, health and education sectors.

SEAQIM has already worked in collaboration with the community to conduct a needs assessment concerning mathematics education at the local primary schools. The Centre is anticipating using its experience to work holistically with the school leaders, teaching staff, students and parents to contribute towards improving mathematics education in the community.

Case Study: SEA Digital Class (SEAMOLEC)

Given the large geographical area of Southeast Asia and the number of teachers within this region, the development of educational personnel solely through a person-to-person training model is a difficult task. To address this concern, an inter-centre collaboration was established between SEAQIM and SEAMOLEC, the centre for open learning, to implement the SEA-Digital Class. This projects aim is to provide an online professional community learning system, where experts, teachers and students are able to easily connect and learning resources can be shared and accessed. SEAQIM has most recently been assisting with the diagnostic testing stages of the project.
