Solo - SEAMEO Regional Centre for QITEP in Mathematics (SEAQiM) in collaboration with Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP) Sebelas Maret University has successfully conducted the General Lecture on Mathematics Education with Topics: "Building a 21st Century Mathematical Brain and Inner Space Exploration: The Impact of Brain Research upon Mathematics Education" on April 13th 2017. Prof. Allan white a SEAQiM’s consultant was invited by them to be a keynote speaker.
This one day lecture was attended by the university’s lecturers and students. The class was mainly discussed about brain research impact to mathematics education. Prof. Allan White teaching method was entertaining to the participants. He played an interesting video to attract the participants’ attention to the topic. He emphasised that IQ (Intelligence quotient) is not the only aspect that determines success, but it still plays an extensive role in other parts of our life. Thus, by giving the right training for the brain, our IQ could work in its optimum state because the brain research shown that the brain can grow new neural pathways and build neurons even in adulthood, added Mr. Allan.
He motivated the participants on how the mathematics teachers could make their students understand mathematics better not only make them study to achieve the lesson target. Teachers also expected to be more capable to teach their students in joyful way so that their students could easily love mathematics.
In the end of his sessions, Mr. Allan shared information about how to use Geogebra in the classrooms and the participants had a chance to discuss it directly with him.
SEAQiM highly valued the partnership and wishing this cooperation can provide professional and better service to mathematics community in Southeast Asia relating to prepare the students’ to face 21st Century.
